Making the big chop

If you are getting sick of your long hair and want an easier style to manage it might be time to chop is all off. Here are some things to keep in mind as you plan your big chop.

Have an idea of what you want

It's common advice, sure, but heading into the hairdresser with a picture of a celebrities hair that you admire is a great start. It can give your hairdresser an idea of how much you want to get cut off as well as a general idea of the style you want. It's important to remember to that the same hairstyle might not suit you as well if you choose a celebrity has a much different shape of face or type of hair - your hairdresser only has your hair to work with!

Trust your hairdresser

Your hairdresser may need to modify the cut that you have asked for slightly due to issues with your hair. For example, long hair that is quite wavy often springs up and becomes much curlier and can seem shorter when it has been cut so it might seem to that they are leaving your hair longer than you wanted or doing a slightly different style than you intended. It's a good idea to find a hairdresser that you can trust, then let them work out the best way to achieve the style that you want.

Be prepared for more prep time

While long hair has a reputation taking more time to maintain and style, you may find that a shorter hair style can take just as much time to style and maintain. In order to get a more precise cut to sit well, you may need to use some new types of hair styling products. It's a good idea to listen and even take notes as the hairdresser explains what is required to get your hair looking salon perfect, as you may find your hair does not sit or behave in quite the same way now it's shorter. You may also need to head into the hairdresser more often as shorter hair can become more overgrown and harder to style, compared to long hair.

Having short hair can be a fun change. It's a big step to make, especially if you have had long hair for a while, so find a hairdresser that is experienced and that you trust to help you get a great hair style.

Looking older than I am

I am a man trapped within a boy's face. It can be hard to be taken seriously when you look as young as I do, and that is a problem in the corporate environment. I need to be acknowledged as a player in the corporate game, so I rely on a lot of makeup tips from the women in my life to make sure I look like an older man. This blog has some of their tips, as well as some before and after shots of me so that you can see that it is really working. Boy-faced men of the world unite!
